われは南瓜 I am a Pumpkin

草間彌生　2013年制作（黒御影石）

南瓜は、草間がもっとも好んで使っているモチーフ。これまで数多くの作品を生み出していますが、本作は初めて石彫で作られた作品です。
タイトルの「われは南瓜」と素材として使われた石の関係について、草間は自身のテーマである「永遠（とこしえ）」に例えています。半永久的に残る素材（黒御影石）に南瓜（草間自身）を重ね合わせて、永遠の命を作品に吹き込みました。

Yayoi Kusama Production in 2013 (black granite)

Pumpkin is the motif most preferred by Kusama. It is a work made with stone carving for the first time though this work has been producing numerous works.
Regarding the relationship between the title ‘I m a Pumpkin’ and the stone used as a material, Kusama is comparing to her own theme ‘Eternity’. Pumpkin (Kusama herself) was superimposed on the semi-permanently remaining material (black granite), and eternal life was blown into the work.
